About the Event
Workshop lead by Mariah of Local Earth Studios:
In this 5 hour workshop, you will create your very own custom heirloom doll that will be cherished for generations to come. Gift it to a favorite child in your life, or simply create one for yourself, relishing in your “inner-child.” You will be provided with a handmade primitive cloth doll and during the course of the day, you will create an outfit and accessories including the use of natural dyes and paints on your fabric. You will also practice some simple embroidered techniques to add the face and hair. We will be hand sewing the clothing. No experience is necessary, although basic hand sewing knowledge will be useful.
Local Earth is the studio of Mariah Palmer an artist and designer living in the forest near Bozeman, Montana. Her art practice is deeply rooted in nature. Her background is in Clothing, Textiles, and Design with a degree from the University of Idaho. Since then, she has explored many different mediums including; clothing design, metalsmithing, graphic design and photography, printmaking, pottery, and more. In her latest endeavor, she co-founded Wilder Studio + Goods—a community art studio and local artisan shop. Now, she has happily returned to her home studio and is focusing on her original love of textiles and diving deeper into her connection with nature by working with natural dyes, earth pigments and clay. She is most inspired by the simple act of creation and wants to share that joy with others.
